We're Back...With Thanksgiving Pictures

Wow. It's been a while since we've been on the blog. I can only guess you all know why, but I sure am sorry anyway! Chip is doing very well and planning to go back to work tomorrow for an abbreviated day. Knowing him, he'll have us schedule more patients for Tuesday, but we'll see. I know jumping back into work after two rough weeks off will definitely be tiring. He's still handling the surgery and lack of one kidney like a champ...no pain meds and no complaining. I think he's just bored to death, mostly!

We had a fantasticly boring and lazy weekend. Rain kept us indoors mostly after several days visiting with the Wilbourns. What a week. We were sorry to see them go, that's for sure and I'm not sure Cooper knows that they've gone home, to be honest. He probably thinks they'll be back the next morning!

Here are some pictures from the week and Thanksgiving Day at Grammy and Grandy's and the next day at Vovo and Eddie's. No real photos from Mimi and Grandad's because, well, quite frankly I couldn't keep up with the kids and their cousins. They were too fast for pictures!!! Maybe Christmas I can get them cornered long enough to get a picture or two!

Happy Birthday Kendall

Happy Birthday Sweet Little Kendall!!!

Today was Kendall's birthday. Oh, what memories we have of two years ago, the day before Thanksgiving, 2006! I remember a very, very long and painful labor and not having an epidural most of the day (they say you forget, but I haven't yet. BUT, as all the extremely annoying people told me that day, it was, indeed, all worth it. What a wonder she is! She never ceases to amaze us with her sweetness, her girliness, her kisses and her fun little giggles.

A big thank you to the Carver's who invited us over for playtime and lunch so that Chip could rest for a few hours in quiet. Kendall had so much fun playing with the love of her life, Drew...especially the part where she got to lick all the icing off of a gigantic cupcake!

We had family over for a party this evening, just cookie cake and ice cream, and I am pretty sure Cooper enjoyed opening presents more than Kendall. Around 5PM this afternoon, I took Kendall's temperature and it was over 101!!! How unfair to have a fever on your birthday! After a good dose of Tylenol, it came down enough that she seemed to enjoy herself just fine.

Cooper asked all day if this was his party, too. Since he turned 3 1/2 on November 19th, I figured it was only fair to let him blow out candles, too!

On a day like today, while Chip is recovering from surgery, a cancerous tumor, a super special visit with friends and celebrating our baby's birthday...we are once again reminded of how blessed we are. This has been by far the most emotional, weird and enlightening week of our lives. We know we will get through it because of the love, support and prayers of our family and friends and even people we barely know. I feel like a broken record these days, but...THANK YOU.

Greetings from Blount Memorial

Hi everyone...Thanks to the Wi-Fi access at Blount Memorial, I am able to continue to update everyone on Chip's condition. He resting, not exactly comfortably, but resting. He's still groggy and his muscles are a little sore in his shoulders...I think he'll be wishing his chiropractor was on staff at BMH!

His pain level is still pretty low so let's hope it remains that way thru the night and into tomorrow.

Out of Surgery!!!!

For all of you who haven't received a phone call, text or email...Chip is out of surgery and awake in recovery. I will not see him for another hour or so, around 5PM at the earliest probably, but at least we know he's awake and doing well.

The doctor thought the tumor looked "suspicious" but contained to the kidney nonetheless, so that is good news! We will have those results in the next day or two.

Tomorrow is Chip's surgery. We go to the hospital at 11:45 tomorrow morning. He's already done all of his pre-op stuff, so we just have to show up and the surgery is scheduled for 1PM. Please pray for Chip, the doctors, nurses and surgical team tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has already been praying hard that all goes well. We are truly blessed to have so many people on our side.

Kendall's Early Birthday Celebration

Most of you know that we moved Kendall's party up a little earlier because of Chip's surgery. We must have picked a good day...We had 20 toddlers and preschoolers jumping and skipping around Miss Julie's gym, Gym Bugs last Sunday afternoon. I'll let the pictures do the talking (mostly).

Jumping on the trampoline. The rule was changed from "only two kids at one time" to "only one kid at one time in addition to Kendall." The Princess got to jump as much as she wanted and didn't have to wait in line, she learned that pretty quick.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the party...it shows pretty well how much pure fun she had the entire time.

Kendall just loves Gym Bugs. Here, she gets to live up to the nickname we gave her a long time ago...Our Little Monkey.

Camp Montvale

After Cooper and I had been locked in the house sick all week, we enjoyed a nice morning in the fresh mountain air on Friday. We got permission from some friends that own the former Camp Montvale to take pictures on their property and Aunt Emily and Sam came along, too. Sam seemed to thoroughly enjoy the fresh air until it was time to get him out and take some pictures. He didn't seem to enjoy that as much! Lesson learned...take pictures of newborns first, toddlers second.

I can't believe it, but later today we'll have pictures to post from Kendall's second birthday party. Her birthday isn't until the 22nd, but still...she's celebrating her second birthday. Wow...

Is Cooper a republican?

I don't know if he is or not, but he seemed awfully sick after the final election results came in.



Poor Coop has now been to the doctor twice in about 20 hours! He woke up around 2AM, miserable with a fever and wheezing. He was so pitiful that we let him sleep in our bed, which meant that eventually Chip made his way to the couch for the remainder of the night. The doctor thought Cooper was getting a sinus infection AND croup, so we're on antibiotics, steroids and breathing treatments. Let's just hope poor Kendall doesn't get sick for her birthday party!

Coop handled his first breathing treatment in 2 years like a champ. Until he got bored, then we had a fight on our hands!

Great news today...Chip's bone scan and chest film came back clear, so if this rotten tumor is cancerous, it has not spread anywhere else in his body! Thank the Good Lord for that!!!!!!! Be warned, a friend of Chip's from high school was dianosed with a brain tumor recently. I was asked yesterday if Chip had a brain tumor. Seems like the Maryville rumor mill is in full swing and, as usual, not always right. I can certainly see where people might get confused since this is all happening so close together and to people the same age. Be sure and set them straight if anyone asks if Chip has a brain tumor!

Congratulations to our friend Charles West for his Maryville School Board victory last night! If any of you had to do with his narrow victory, thank you!

Trick or Treat

I wish I could come up with a better title than this, but since Cooper keeps calling all of his Halloween candy "trick or treat," I felt it was appropriate. It's been a very busy weekend, but mainly b/c of the holiday. I cannot express to you my new-found hatred of all things sugar. Sugar has brought a lot of difficulty to our lives this week since we have trick-or-treated four times. The kids want candy, everyday, all day, morning, noon and night. Cooper wakes up at 6:30Am and what does he ask for? Granola bar? OJ? Pancakes? Nope. Candy. Kendall asks for something only slightly different..."nandy." Halloween does nothing for diets, cavities, or our overall health. The only thing it does to the kids is get them so hyper even they don't know what to do with their energy. There is one, and only one, good thing that comes from this...patients. And even that is pretty much unethical to hope for. Anyway...here are some photos from our Fall Family Festival at church on Wednesday and Halloween last night at our house. Thanks to all our family that came over and enjoyed the evening with us. Although I do owe BIG thanks to Mimi, Grandad and Nene for handing out candy for us while we walked the neighborhood, I also have Mimi and Nene to thank for the kids not going to bed until 10PM b/c they got to have a sampling of several different candies they got last night! =) Oh well, what are Mimi's and Nene's for right?

Thanks to Mimi who worked really hard at making these costumes happen!!! It's been an idea of mine, I think, since our little Kendall Motor Oil advertisement was born!

The train at our Fall Festival at church was a little scary last year. It was again, when it hit a big bump and sent Cooper airborn, but mostly, it was a lot more fun this year!

I say, every good mechanic deserves her popcorn break!
