End of the Great Weekend & an ER Trip

Last Sunday found us, for lack of a better word...T-I-R-E-D!!!!! It was yet another gorgeous day and we were fresh off an unbeatable 36 hours. We knew we were in for nothing but a day of relaxation, which is exactly what happened... We planted flowers, mowed the yard and played and played and played. The kids got to plant their own wildflowers and they are so excited to see how they grow!! I also spent about $10 on dirt the kids could play in all afternoon (i.e. potting soil).

However, our perfect weekend had a, well, not-so-perfect ending. Chip had a really strange way of surprising me with a spontaneous date night. As the kids were in the bath, Chip went out on the deck to start the grill for dinner when he went to kick something that the dogs had brought up on the deck. He came limping into the bathroom saying he had the "world's biggest splinter". My next comment was "well, then get up on the counter and I'll see if I can get it out." That's when the oh-so-perfect weekend became quite the opposite. Chip's comment was "uhhhh, I don't think that's gonna happen." A very large chunk of our deck made it's way in through Chip's big toe and out the other side, embedding itself into the 2nd toe. Chip was able to pull it out of the second toe, but it wouldn't budge beyond that. And, of course, I had my camera with me every step of the way...WARNING: THE IMAGE YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE HERE IS RATED PG-13 (or worse). PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

We actually had a nice time in the BMH Emergency Room. If you have to go to the ER, a splinter is probably one of the easiest, least painful ways to do it. We laughed (Chip says I did all the laughing, but I know that's not true) and had a good time with the ER staff. They were all quite impressed with the size of the splinter (about 1 1/2 inches, we estimated). After only about an hour and a half, two shots in the toe, antibiotics, a tetnus shot and yet another BMH ID bracelet later, we headed for mexican take-out while Mimi was putting our kids to bed. All in all, a pretty cheap date seeing as how Chip has easily met his deductible already in 2009!!

April Play Day & Wedded Bliss

Part III of our fabulous weekend was a combination of a golf tournament/play date with great friends/my sweet step-sister's wedding. After the Pancake Breakfast in the morning and a very short nap, Chip was off to win the 2nd flight of a golf tournament with Grandad and a couple of friends and the kids and I headed to the Carver's for the first warm playday of the year (the other being the Eskimo Egg Hunt back in March. Brrrrr!). I then ran for the hills and left my kids in good hands with the Carvers and headed to Anna's wedding! What a GORGEOUS day for a wedding! It was perfect all up and down the East Coast...which meant that cousin Alyssa got to have a beautiful wedding on the SAME day up in New England!!! What a treat to witness such a perfect day for Anna, Mike and their girls! But we missed our McRell ladies on their special day, though!

The day ended after we moved across the street to the Elders and just about ruined their backyard from riding the battery-powered Gator for HOURS. After heading back to get our stuff at the Carvers, Cooper and Drew decided that it was bathtime. I might should mention, the approximate time that this bath ensued was about 9:15PM. Kendall, being the sweet, sweet girl that she is refused to bathe with the boys (thank goodness!!) so she took over Joy and Will's master bath while the boys turned their clean water into water a wild elephant wouldn't go near. We managed to get home around 9:45PM and the kids were sleeping like babies no later than 10:00. It was an incredibly long but amazingly FUN day.

And we haven't even gotten to Sunday yet...

Princess, Pirates & Pals

As part II of our weekend, we attended the Junior Service League of Maryville's 2nd annual Princess, Pirates and Pals Pancake Breakfast. This was my first year as a "sustainer" of JSL, which translates into "I didn't have to work the event!" The kids didn't go last year because I had to dress as Sleeping Beauty and entertain the other 400 people in attendance, along with my other Princesses and Pals. Having a 1 year old and a 2 year old at an event like that probably wasn't on Chip's long-time wish list. However, this year was different and we enjoyed the event as a family. Cooper was ALL BOY that morning and was staring in wonder at Batman, Spiderman, Darth Vader and Captain Hook, among others.

Earlier in the morning we tried on EVERY costume we had which includes, but is not limited to: two pirate costumes, Spiderman, Indian Jones, a fireman, a policeman, Princesses of every color, and 2 fairies. After an hour of costume changes (I wish I was kidding), Kendall wanted nothing to do with the Princess dresses and insisted on wearing a tutu...her white one, not even the pink one!! I made her at least wear a Minnie Mouse t-shirt with her plain, boring tutu! Cooper decided last minute that he didn't want to wear the Spiderman costume he had been talking about for two days, but to wear one of the pirates instead.

Our Little Tree Huggers

Spring has finally sprung in East Tennessee! On Friday, we packed the kids up and drove to Gatlinburg to the Bud Ogle cabin and Nature Trail. Chip and I had done this trail when I was pregnant with Cooper and even in the winter it was a nice trail with lots to look at, including an old tub mill in addition the the cabin and barn at the trailhead. We were able to throw rocks in the water, climb rocks and explore old buildings over the course of the 3/4 of a mile long trail... which took us nearly 2 hours! We even spotted a little wildlife...no...no bears or deer, but we did spot a wild turkey hopping and flying around the river we were playing near. The kids did great! They started to get a little tired and hungry at the end, but were hiking champs! Even at the end of the trail Cooper was still asking "when are we going to get to the mountains?" I guess the more flat nature of this trail wasn't quite as challenging for him. We can't wait until we get to do this again...It was a PERFECT day!!!!

Kendall's favorite part of the day was sitting on, climbing over and jumping off all the rocks. The trail was covered in rocks of all sizes!
Towards the end of the trail there was a pit stop waiting for us...Cooper immediately said it looked like a car with it's round legs/wheels. So Cooper drove the car while Chip and Kendall took a little rest.

We have had a very blog-worthy weekend! Stay tuned for posts from the Princess, Pirates & Pals Pancake Breakfast and a playdate at the Carver's/Elder's houses on Saturday. Sunday finds us worn out but enjoying some rest and sunshine while we plant flowers and do yard work!

Spring Football

It was a gorgeous day in East Tennessee today! After tennis and golf, respectively, it was the perfect day for a spring football game. The annual Orange and White UT game was this afternoon and about 60,000 Vol fans showed up to see what our new coaching staff has to offer. We needed lots of water, sunglasses and sunscreen, but the mood was relaxed and there was plenty of room to stretch your feet (for once!).

I can't say I've ever been able to see right through Neyland Stadium, but due to renovations on the stadium (that yet to include the bathrooms by the Webb's season tickets...those are apparently LAST on the decade-long list of renovations to be done), we could today. However, that also meant we could not sit in the shade either!

My kids will never play football...

So, most of you know that Kendall had a skull fracture back in January after falling out of a stroller standing up and landing flat on the back of her head. Today was her 3 month check-up with the neurosurgeon and everything was fine! In fact, he said she could even play football if we wanted her to! I must have laughed, chuckled or made a weird face because the doctor said... "that was the most dangerous sport for head injuries I could think of."

So, that makes it official. If a pediatric neurosurgeon considers football one of the most dangerous sports for a child's head...then let me repeat myself one last time...

My kids will never play football. Period.

I must say, joking aside (well, I'm not really joking but...), we're once again reminded at how blessed we are to be together as a family. Some skull fractures (I can only assume) could be far worse than Kendall's was and we are extremely fortunate that she has no issues from her injury whatsoever. The Webbs have certainly added "resilient" to the family description lately.

This is the day the Lord has made...That's for sure. What a perfect Easter Sunday. Gorgeous sunshine and time with friends and family to make us appreciate what He did for us.

The kids looked up at the camera and smiled a fnatastic smile. Once. Each. Not at the same time.

Again, this was the best we could get. Thanks for trying Aunt Emily! And pretty soon I'll buy plants that are living to fill those pots! Oops...I KNOW my mother is cringing as she sees this!

Most of you know that Chip had a little surgery last Friday. All is fine, but the doctor wanted to do a scope under anesthesia and run some tests while in there. He found nothing wrong and everything in the kidney/bladder area looked just fine! What a fantastic Good Friday we had getting that news! Thanks for all your prayers, which, once again, got us through another trying day. He's still extremely tired and not 100% comfortable yet, but he's getting there. Watching the Masters isn't hurting the recovery process!! Thanks again...

Good-Bye Spring, Hello Sleet & Snow!

Welcome back Winter! Or, I should say, GO AWAY WINTER! Our weekend was just about perfect... beautiful weather to wash cars, ride bikes, clean out the garage and do yardwork! We enjoyed lots of visits from family and friends, grilled out and had an overall wonderful weekend!

And then...we woke up to near freezing temps and rain this morning, along with a nasty forecast of snow tonight. YUK!

A mockingbird (or what sounded like a mockingbird!) visited our neighborhood this weekend but luckily decided to take up residence somewhere else and left soon after! Photo by Chip Webb.
